چکیده

A solution for a crack propagating under shear loading in an isotropic viscoelastic medium with different relaxation under volume and shear deformations is presented. The medium is infinite and the semi-infinite crack propagates along the x1-axis at constant speed V , which may take any value up to the speed of dilatational waves. The requisite Riemann-Hilbert problem for the steady-state case has been solved and the asymptotics of the stress component σ12 directly ahead of the crack and at infinity have been obtained.

Extended finite element simulation of crack propagation in cracked Brazilian disc

The cracked Brazilian disc (CBD) specimen is widely used in order to determine mode-I/II and mixed-mode fracture toughness of a rock medium. In this study, the stress intensity factor (SIF) on the crack-tip in this specimen is calculated for various geometrical crack conditions using the extended-finite element method (X-FEM). This method is based upon the finite element method (FEM). In this m...

Effect of Magnetic Field and a Mode-I Crack 3D-Problem in Micropolar Thermoelastic Cubic Medium Possessing Under Three Theories

A model of the equations of two dimensional problems in a half space, whose surface in free of micropolar thermoelastic medium possesses cubic symmetry as a result of a Mode-I Crack is studied. There acts an initial magnetic field parallel to the plane boundary of the half- space. The crack is subjected to prescribed temperature and stress distribution. The formulation in the context of the Lor...

Mode Ii Fracture Behavior of Bonded Viscoelastic Thermal Compressed Wood

The influence of viscoelastic thermal compression (VTC) of wood on bonding performance was studied. Mode-II (shear mode) fracture of the bonded interphase was performed using the overnotched and end-notched flexure methods. The study examined four groups of specimens; a control and VTC specimens with three different degrees of densification (63, 98, and 132%). The specimens were bonded with phe...

Effect of Rock Fracture Filling on Mode I and II Fracture Toughness

This paper focuses on some fracture toughness tests performed on the pre-cracked Brazilian specimens of rock-like materials. Also the effect of rock fracture filling on the fracture toughness was considered experimentally.  Fracture toughness is a key parameter for studying the crack propagation and fragmentation processes in rock structures. Fracture mechanics is an applicable tool to improve ...

Viscoelastic effects on electromechanical instabilities in dielectric elastomers

We present a computational study of the effects of viscoelasticity on the electromechanical behavior of dielectric elastomers. A dynamic, finite deformation finite element formulation for dielectric elastomers is developed that incorporates the effects of viscoelasticity using the nonlinear viscoelasticity theory previously proposed by Reese and Govindjee. The finite element model features a th...
